You can generate statistics from EXIF data in EXIF Pilot by using the Batch Processing feature. I've installed the EXIF Pilot application and then applied the orientation. After some testing, I've found out that the Orientation tag will simply rotate the image and display it based on the angle entered in the field tab. The orientation doesn't appear in the Properties because Windows isn't configured to display these tags.
